Yet Another Scam Surfaces in Elbert County

February 26, 2013

In what has been an extremely popular crime, especially as of late, yet another scam has surfaced in Elbert County.

Elbert County EMS Director Chuck Almond explains what is going on with the latest scam.

“Apparently a telephone solicitation is indicating that there is a fundraiser effort going on by the local fire department and EMS system”, said Almond. “That is currently not true, normally we do not ask for donations by telephone, and we will advertise when we are having a fundraiser.”

He says that they have already reported this scam to the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office, but said he wanted to make the public aware of what is going on.

Anytime there is a question about a fundraiser, Almond said not to hesitate to ask about it.

“Anytime anybody has questions about local fundraiser efforts, you can contact my office, or contact the respective department that is holding the fundraiser”, said Almond.

If you have been contacted via telephone with a similar request, please contact the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 283-2421.
