Traffic stops as of late in Elbert County have resulted in several drug related arrests, and that trend continued this weekend, as another traffic stop lands an Elbert County man behind bars.
According to a press release from the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office, a traffic stop was conducted in the early morning hours on Saturday.
Through checking for outstanding warrants, an outstanding child support warrant was found to be out for 29-year-old Kerry Lamont Allen of a Pulliam Mill Road address.
According to Elbert County Sheriff Melvin Andrews, when being placed under arrest, Allen struggled and resisted efforts made by the deputy.
“At the time that the officer went to place Mr. Allen in custody to make the arrests, Mr. Allen snatched back resisting, fighting with the officer trying to flee”, said Andrews. “Fighting with the officer would be the obstruction, and then trying to run and get away is the fleeing.”
Further investigation led to additional charges for Allen, which includes Felony Obstruction, Fleeing and Attempting to Elude Officer, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Cocaine, and Crossing Guard Line with Controlled Substance.
Following his arrest, Allen was transported to the Elbert County Detention Center, where he remains in custody with a bond set at $40,000.
