Young Cross Country Team Struggles at Eagle Inviational

The Elbert County Cross Country team travelled to the 6th Annual Eagle Invitational in East Jackson over the weekend. Both the Ladies and Men’s varsity teams came in 15th at the invitational. The Men’s team scored a total of 431 points which was over 300 more than 2nd place Hart County. The Lady Varsity team scored  a total of 415 points.

Senior Trey Moore led the Distance Devils with a time of 18:45 in the 5000 meter run, placing 62nd overall and scoring 60 points. Benito Serna placed 83rd with a time of 19:13, Jorge Espinoza placed 106th with a time of 19:50, Trey Wansley placed 108th with a time of 19:56, Landon Bagwell placed 127th with a time of 20:29, Norberto Flores placed 129th with a time of 20:32, Jacob Heydringer placed 134th with a time of 20:42, and Branson Harris placed 155th with a time of 22:39.

Sophomore Shelby Starret led the Lady Distance Devils with a time of 24:33. Starret placed 56 and scored 51 points for the team. Maggie Hall placed 76th with a time of 25:31, Gail Whitehead placed 94th with a time of 26:19, Denisse Rodriquez placed 116th with a time of 28:47, Kallie Craft finished behind Rodriquez in 117th with a time of 28:48, and Sydney Fullen placed 125th with at time of 31:46. The young teams are struggling so far this season but look to get headed in the right direction.
