Zumba for Sydney Benefit Tonight at the Elberton Elks Lodge

November 30, 2012

The Elbert Memorial Hospital’s Wellness Center is hosting another beneficiary Zumbathon event, this time it is for Sydney Vickery and her family.

Back in late August, Sydney was diagnosed with Anti- NMDA Receptor Encephalitis, which is an auto-immune disease.

Kellyn Willis, a Zumba instructor with the Wellness Center said they will be able to accommodate anyone who wants to participate in the event.

“We will start off with a very high energy warm-up; we will break it down into two one hour segments. There will be an intermission in the middle, where we will do things like the cha-cha slide and the electric slide, which are slower line dances that everyone can participate in”, said Willis.

Willis said the idea for the second Zumbathon started with another instructor, Megan Dixon.

“It was kind of a group effort of the instructors. One of our instructors, Megan Dixon, actually had the idea. She had people contact her about raising money for the Vickery family”, said Willis. “We had a lot of success with our first Zumbathon, so we wanted to try it again. We feel like this is a great way to raise money, and a fun way to get the community involved.”

Tickets for the event cost ten dollars, and can be purchased at the Wellness Center or from any Wellness Center instructor. Tickets will also be sold at the door this evening as well.

Willis encourages everyone to wear Sydney’s favorite color, which is purple.

The Zumbathon will be held this evening beginning at 7:00pm, and will be held at the Elberton Elks Lodge.
